What Hope?

” America is the greatest, freest and most decent society in existence. It is an oasis of goodness in a desert of cynicism and barbarism. This country, once an experiment unique in the world, is now the last best hope for the world.”   -Dinesh D’Souza

Lets take a moment to look at this quote,  not just read it, but truly allow it to sink in. Do you agree? What is your hope? For without hope, we truly have nothing.

If America was the last and best hope for this world, we would be in trouble. While I do agree that America is the freest country , I question that it is the most decent. That is a far stretch of the imagination if you ask me. I suppose if you compare America to other countries, in some aspects it certainly could seem more decent, but hardly anything to invest our hope in. With freedom comes sin. So before we dig deeper let us look at the definitions of sin.The Dictionary defines sin as ; a sin in the eyes of God: IMMORAL ACT, wrong, wrong doing, acts of evil/wickedness, transgression, crime, offense, misdeed, misdemeanor; archaic trespass. It further defines the human capacity for sin : WICKEDNESS, wrongdoing, wrong, evil, evildoing, sinfulness, immorality, iniquity, vice, crime.

No matter how you choose to define it,  fluff it up, down play it, or brush it off, a sin is an act of wrong. Knowing right from wrong is universal. It crosses all barriers, religions, and societies. According to the dictionary, sin is around us , no matter where we look and no matter where we live. Are their sins in our society that we accept rather than reject?  In America, it  is expected that we universally adopt the social and political ideas of everyone to some degree or we are considered  racist, persons of hate, or religious freaks. Why is it that some sins are accepted in society and some are not? What is that decision based on?

With such freedoms as America offers combined with a man’s free will to choose comes a multitude of sins. What shall we say then, that this country will save us from our sins? If we kill someone for example, does the country save us from a jail sentence or death ourselves? No, it doesn’t. So, where is the hope?

“Is not your fear of God your confidence, And the integrity of your ways your hope?” Job 4:6 (NASB).  Jesus Christ is our hope, the maker of the heavens and earth, the founder of this great country in which we live . Without God, we have nothing.

The sin that runs rampant in our society and others is nothing new, and certainly not a surprise to God.  As followers of Christ, our tolerance regarding soul stealing sins must stop. Our inclination to keep quiet rather than make waves needs to change. Plenty of groups and organizations that trample the Word of God speak out and utilize their “freedom of speech” right as an American, why aren’t Christians? Does it surprise you that Christians are trampled on? What are we waiting on?!

The epidemic of highly socially sensitive subjects such as ;same-sex marraige, sex before marriage, teen pregnancy, and suicides (just to name a few) need to be dealt , not ignored. Dealt with according to the word of God and not the ways of the world.

Jesus loves everyone, but not our sins. So let us turn from our evil ways and repent of our sins, resting in Gods grace and forgiveness, thereby obtaining TRUE freedom. “Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the Lord.” Psalm 31:24 (NASB).
